SONG OF THE DAY — GEORGE HARRISON, “WAH WAH”
I’ve been watching the new HBO documentary “George Harrison: Living In the Material World” over the last couple days (if you don’t have HBO, it’s available on iTunes)…which means the only music I’ve been listening to lately was written by Harrison. I haven’t listened to much of his solo stuff, but as soon as I played All Things Must Pass, I immediately fell in love with “Wah Wah.”
Not only is George the best Beatle (in my opinion), but he’s definitely one of the coolest people to have ever existed. Anyone who disagrees obviously has zero taste. Come on, guys, it’s George Harrison.
VIDEO DEBUT — JAY-Z & KANYE WEST, “NO CHURCH IN THE WILD”
So this is by far my favorite song off “Watch The Throne.” Anyone else?
P.S.: also check out “No Church In The Wild” in the trailer for Baz Lurhmann’s upcoming “Great Gatsby” remake…the combo of modern rap with the visual indulgences of the Roaring 20s is beyond brilliant. Kudos to Lurhmann for just getting it.
VIDEO DEBUT — SLEIGH BELLS, “DEMONS”
Slow-motion head-banging, bright flashing lights, and shots of those oh-so-famous Marshall amps and Alexis Krauss’s ragged cut-offs —- all this culminates in Sleigh Bells coming off even cooler (if that’s actually possible) in the video for “Demons.”
Directed by the band’s guitarist, Derek Miller, the video was shot over several days at recent concerts in Omaha, Houston, Dallas, and Oklahoma City — which happened to be the show I went to! And yes, it was as freaking cool as it looks.

Yes, “Bloom” may have already leaked, but in case you don’t feel like downloading it/waiting until it’s “officially” released on May 15, go ahead and click the link to stream the whole album from NPR. This is why it’s important to support your public radio system, obviously.

LANA DEL REY FT. AZEALIA BANKS, “BLUE JEANS”
I’m not saying this is the greatest thing to happen to music all week…but I’m not prepared to say it;s not.
STREAM JACK WHITE’S SOLO ALBUM
The world has been waiting for a Jack White solo album pretty much since he started making music — and now that time is nearly here.
Blunderbuss, White’s first full-length solo album, drops April 24th, but you can stream the whole thing right now on iTunes.
While White has lent his insane guitar skills to different sounds in The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather, with Blunderbuss he finally gets to play his favorite heavy blues rock just the way he likes it: long solos, unadulterated instruments, and a voice that can both belt and croon.
NEW RELEASE: BEACH HOUSE, “LAZULI”
On May 15, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally will release their highly anticipated new record Bloom, but you don’t have to wait until next month to get your hands on some brand new Beach House. This Saturday, the band will release new single “Lazuli” on limited-edition blue vinyl for Record Store Day, as shops across America celebrate the act of going out and actually (gasp!) buying the music you love. “Lazuli” itself sounds predictably Beach House-y, which is to say, it’s five minutes of absolutely gorgeous pop, with all the reverb, breathy vocals, and velvety atmosphere you’ve come to expect.

IN WHICH MY LOVE FOR SLEIGH BELLS GROWS EVEN MORE
Last night I saw one of my favorite bands, Sleigh Bells, at the Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City. If you ever get the chance to see Sleigh Bells in concert, DO IT BECAUSE THEIR LIVE SHOW IS BEYOND AMAZING!!! The stage and surrounding area was a wall of speakers — my hair was literally blowing from the force of the sound, and my ears are still ringing/popping a good 14 hours after the fact. The show lasted less than an hour, which sucked, but I have a feeling that if it had lasted any longer, everyone in the audience would’ve gone deaf. But probably the greatest part was when Alexis Krauss crowd surfed during “Rill Rill” AND I GRABBED HER LEG. AND TOUCHED HER LEFT KED. Those of you who are diehard Sleigh Bells fans like me know how iconic Alexis’s Keds are. It’s basically the equivalent of touching the pope’s hat (I realize how wrong/sacrilegious that sounds, but just go with it). Needless to say, that’s all I could talk about for the rest of the night. That. Awesome.
Watch the “Rill Rill”/crowd surfing/Ked-touching video above, and be sure to check back on my YouTube page later in the day for more concert videos.
VIDEO PREMIERE: PAUL MCCARTNEY, “MY VALENTINE”
Paul McCartney recruited Hollywood A-listers Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp to star in the video for his latest single, “My Valentine.” Set against a grey backdrop, the pair take turns nonchalantly signing the lyrics to the song. Random? Perhaps. But when a Beatle asks you to do something, you do NOT say no!
